The main stream movie A Beautiful Mind covers the story of John Nash a famous mathematician who won the nobel prize. John Nash also suffers from a mental disability called schizophrenia. His disability puts obstacles in his life with his family and work. With the disease John believes that the voices he hears are real, and specifically they tell him to crack codes and send him on secret missions which endanger his and his families lives. Throughout the movie the audience has a hard time deciphering if the missions and characters used to represent the voices are real or not. This displays how tangible John Nash's voices felt to him. Disability functions as a negative influence in this movie. John's schizophrenia puts pressure on his relationship with his wife and friends who all act as if he is mad. However at the end of the movie his illness is shown to be beatable. Instead of being sent away to be medically treated for his 'insanity', John is determined to stay with his wife and kids and to learn to ignore the prominent voices in his head. So even though disability is displayed as the obstacle in this picture, it is shown to be surmountable task to overcome.
